Overview

Do you need an Oklahoma roofing contractor license?

Yes. Oklahoma requires anyone who does roofing work for compensation to be licensed with the Construction Industries Board. Starting July 1, 2026, residential roofing work also needs a Residential Roofing Endorsement.

License required when

  • You do any roofing activity for compensation
  • You install, repair, reroof, maintain or waterproof roofs on commercial or industrial buildings
  • You supervise roofing personnel, supply materials or solicit commercial roofing contracts
  • You do residential roofing work after July 1, 2026 (Residential Roofing Endorsement)

Common exceptions

  • The source notes don’t list exemptions, so check the Roofing Contractor Registration Act (Title 59, Section 1151) before you rely on one
  • Workers’ comp can be replaced by a valid exemption

Penalties for unlicensed work

The CIB can fine roofers who work without a license under its fine schedule (Title 158, Chapter 10). Check the CIB fine schedule for current amounts.
