Who needs CE

Who needs continuing education for an Alabama gas fitter license?

Every licensed Alabama gas fitter, plumber and designated qualifying representative needs 4 hours of CE each renewal year, unless an exemption applies. Renewal is handled by the state through the Alabama Plumbers and Gas Fitters Examining Board, not by your city.

CE applies to

  • Licensed Gas Fitters
  • Licensed Plumbers
  • Designated Qualifying Representatives
  • Holders of both plumbing and gas fitter licenses

Exemptions

  • Certified contractors 65 or older, starting the year after they turn 65 (proof of birth date required)
  • Your first certification year: no CE to acquire or renew a new certification issued in the current calendar year, if you didn’t already hold one that required CE
  • Certificate holders on inactive status

Turning 65 this year?

The age exemption doesn’t apply in the year you turn 65. You still need your 4 hours that year, and you must give the board proof of your birth date to qualify the next year.
